Louvre to open McDonald's ...I died a little

The Louvre shocked the inteligensia world wide with plans to add a McDonald's to their food court within the famed museum's hallowed halls. Read the article here on the french (rightful) outrage HERE Home to the Mona Lisa- and the McRibb wow. Louvre spokespersons have stated they plan to have a diverse food court and that McDonald's is a global representative of The United States of America.... Personally I died a little bit when I read the article. It's been that kind of day. Gourmet magazine got the ax after 68 years of publishing by the evil empire of Condé-Nast. The world is getting smaller, poorer, and sadly déclassé.

John Barrowman in La Cage Aux Folles!

Pansexual sexpot, unkillable action hero (Torchwood, Doctor Who) , popular show host, openly gay actor, happily married man, Show tune belter, am-radio cover singer (Another Side; Music, Music, Music) ; possible Captain America (fingers crossed): The Scottish born , American raised, British resident John Barrowman can do it all. And now he proves he can do it all...in heels as well.
Barrowman is receiving rave reviews across the pond as Zara in the West End revival of La Cage Aux Folles. The fabulous drag numbers and heartfelt story have made the play and its many film incarnations a endearing classic (except the Birdcage-the Americanized version of the play/film I don't really like, sorry) I think this is a great break from playing Captain Jack Harkness on BBC's Doctor Who spin off Torchwood (one of my favorite shows ) and a nice reward after the monumental success of Torchwood:Children of Earth. Check out the sexy pics of John as Zara below.

Lady Gaga on SNL

Lady Gaga performed on last night's Saturday Night Live with a surprise appearance by Madonna, the skit is so-so but I'm biased I've always hated this particular skit. Later Lady Gaga gets totally winded performing Paparazzi getting out of time with her backing tracks, which is actually interesting-it shows hey I do perform hard and shit happens. Her next performance however was brilliant, a mind bending costume choice, a medley of hits pure spectacle pop. Enjoy the clips from youtube before killjoy NBC yanks them down.

Neoconservatives Cheer Chicago Loss

What the FUCK! I've been following this story for the past two days-well since I'm home bound recovering from the damn swine flu what else can I do- But this just blows my mind. We have truly lost our way in this country. Yesterday we lost our bid for the 2016 Olympic summer games to be hosted in Chicago. I've seen both sides of the argument on whether that was a blessing in disguise or not . I was there in Atlanta when it hosted the summer games-and a domestic terrorist attack. It's a economic and logistical nightmare to be the esteemed host city as much as it is an honor. That said neocon's in America , so rabidly consumed by their own isolation and self-espoused rhetoric, cheered our nation's loss as a failure on the part of President Barack Obama, even though the process to bring the Olympics to Chicago in 2016 began under former President Bush. The amazing Rachel Maddow does a better job of culling all the quotes together than I can at this our in my state so watch the clip below and BEHOLD, how far we have fallen. 84% of Americans wanted the Olympics to be held within out borders but globally as Rio takes the spotlight, what face to we show-petty spiteful insanity. I feel like we are edging closer to a civil war in this country. The marginalized minority of neoconservatives with their rancorous racist old money ideologies can not handle their sudden fall from grace and their feeling helpless, desperate. This is a powder keg awaiting a spark, beware. You can not reason with willful ignorance, something my mom always used to say. She is right.

Where The Wild Things Are- Soundtrack

So I've been compiling my very eclectic best of the year list and who knew a soundtrack would make such a big impression on me that I'd feel compelled to add it to the list of contenders. Well Karen O (of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs) has out done herself making the most rocking Original children's album ever or the most child-like rock album...I'm not sure which, nor if it matters . With additional score work from the esteemed Carter Burwell and a gaggle of spirited kids the album is an odd, endearing stunningly gorgeous work that stands on it's own as one of the best records of the year regardless of it's movie tie-in status. The songs bleed anxiety and loneliness and spit the joys and exuberance of childhood. It's confusing and scary and fun and exciting all at once. Where The Wild Things Are is already proclaimed a Masterpiece of a film, by even the highest of art critics, Film Comment practically wrote a love letter to it. The soundtrack is amazing plain and simple go get it, listen to it full blast with a child you love, or the inner child in you-It's not really a kid's record, which makes it even better for kids, it doesn't for a split second talk down to them. You shouldn't either!
