Apparently Beau Breedlove , the star attraction in the Sam Adams "scandal" has been offered an undisclosed sum of money to pose nude (and the cover) in one of Unzipped Media's publications (Freshmen, Men, Unzipped) . This actually disgusted me to be honest.
I just am sick of the righteous indignation on behalf of those like Beau's father now. "clearly he was groomed" um sir, clearly he's done some grooming but this guy knew exactly what he was doing and I'm sure had done "it" many times before.
And Babies make 14( Four-fucking-teen! ) Folks I have now given up on humanity. Rather than adopt a child in desperate need, or become a foster parent some people get it into their thick selfish heads they MUST bind their clearly defective chromosomal info and make a "tiny person; a little us" . I am all for having kids, i.e. becoming a parent, however just because you can does not mean you SHOULD. I argued previously that the birth of the Octuplets (nope, spellcheck still hates that word) last week might be medically and ethically irresponsible. Well now I'm certain. There may be a special place in hell for people like Angela Suleman, age 33, not only did this irresponsible woman have this litter eight babies strong she has a set of twins and four others at home. 6 + 8 = 14 kids! She has recently filed for bankruptcy and her husband has moved to his native Iraq to help rebuild that country/make enough money to support his 14 kids(ages 2,3,4,5,7 and 1 week x8. So basically she's a broke ass single mom living with her parents and her 14 kids... I'm sorry perhaps I'm being too harsh about people's life choices. And yeah reproduction is not called the miracle of life for nothing but I also think bio-evolutionarily speaking there is no way she can possibly begin to be a "good mother" to 14 children under the age of 7. THis all feels like either a mental illness issue gone horribly unchecked or a freak show arrangement where by publicity generates the revenues to cover her debts, either way I do not feel, personally, that this is you best candidate for parent. But hey, what do I know- I don't have any children yet and I was drunk when I wrote this.
In a staggering overstep of their meager limits the American Family Association (AFA) have continued their now month long call to boycott Pepsi Co. as I've previously state here but now also have spread their "Good Christian American Family Values" to The United Kingdom where they are calling for a television advert to be pulled. From t.v. in ANOTHER FREAKING COUNTRY! It offends them and yet it is not even shown in the states? Now a Boycott by the AFA holds little meaning , even in this country, they frequently forge letters of acquiescence and cry victory. They did this with McDonald's among others.
While Pepsi Co. is pretty much ignoring these neo-conservative fanatics I thought I'd post the UK Pepsi advert that caused their latest furor as well, it's actually pretty damn cute. I just still am galled by these fanatics and their demands that the rest of , now world, bend to their small minded message. They feel threatened that the views of others are being forced down their throats but they constantly assault the media and corporate America for doing such things as offering Domestic Partner benefits, marketing products to the LBGT community and donating to charities. I feel this is more UN-American and the opposite of Christianity than the causes they protest.
As much is being said about former Olympian Ian Thorpe's surprising new physique as about his vague admission he's in love with someone who is not from Australia (hmm someone like Daniel Mendez, the Brazilian Swimmer he has shared his home and life with for the past three years? Octuplets- a word so underused that my spellcheck got confused. Medically, their birth has been deemed near impossible to have occurred without the tinkering of fertility treatments .. Officially their has been no statement of the procedures involved with their conception nor have the names of their parents been released. Most modern fertility clinics work very hard to prevent this kind of multiple birth as the risks to the mother and fetus are exponentially greater. This is pardon the term a litter of children. Humans were not evolutionarily speaking meant to have that great a number of offspring. One can not provide the kind of nurturing bond with a baby when it must compete with seven, S-E-V-E-N others.When we see something like this in the general fertility world, it gives us the heebie jeebies," said Michael Tucker, a clinical embryologist in Atlanta and a leading researcher in infertility treatment. Tucker added that in his opinion, "if a medical practitioner had anything to do with it, there's some degree of inappropriate medical therapy there."

This kind of god playing is an incredibly irresponsible move, dangerous both ethically and medically. This is both the product of playing science air guinea pig and parents who expect to receive a wage/charity from their celebrity. Quite a few multiple births have been given new homes, automobiles and life time supplies of just about everything to "help out", which seem suspicious motives may be at work here. They are easily preventable and HIGHLY discouraged and prevented my ethically sound well trained doctors and technicians in hospitals and clinics world wide. If patients choose to proceed with the treatment -- even facing the potential of a large number of eggs being released -- they can later abort some of the embryos if a higher-order pregnancy occurs. Many patients dislike this practice, called selective reduction, said Dr. Harold Henry, director of maternal-fetal medicine at Kaiser Permanente. Some have religious or ethical objections to aborting any of the fetuses; others don't want to risk losing the entire pregnancy.
I find it morally objectionable and hypocritical to hide behind the religious extremist excuse of being antiabortion in their reasoning and defense of multiple birth. To the Parents of fertility clinic produced multiples who say God wanted you to have that litter of babies: If it were up to God, clearly you would not be giving natural birth ladies. You or your partner could not conceive but I feel then you selfishly played doctor Frankenstein on your selves and look what you hath wrot. You could have just as easily-more easily in most cases become an adoptive or foster parent to any number of impoverished children in need in America or abroad. I prefer american adoptions personally because living the pacific northwest as I do i feel we had an asian baby boom that was just affluent Caucasians needing a new fashion accessory. One that said hey look at me we already had kids but we adopted a chinese baby girl , so see how liberal and compassionate we are. It's just a thought as i see a significantly lower percentage of adopted african american or caucasian or even latino babies. It's about status and small town celebrity, not always, but i cant help think the Los Angeles Octuplets were the selfish bi-product of dubious fame seekers both in the parents and the doctor s involved in their conception.

Tomorrow, I go back work as your mayor. I know I have let you down and made
mistakes. I ask your forgiveness. I believe I have a lot to offer the city I love during this
time of important challenges.
Beginning tomorrow morning, I will be back in my office doing the work that the last 20
years of public service have prepared me for. And my pledge to you is this: I will work
harder than I ever have in my life to meet the challenges facing our great city. Tough
economic times are creating record unemployment, strained city services, and the worst
financial landscape for businesses since the Great Depression.
In the coming weeks and months, Portlanders will rightfully judge me not by my words,
but by my ability to deliver results for them:
· To prioritize city spending to protect vital services such as public
safety;
· To deliver on the 500 million dollar economic stimulus strategy to
put Portlanders back to work;

I support Sam Adams. I always have and will. He is, in fact, the person I think who is best suited to govern Portland. He is everything we love about Portland, bike riding, quirky, sexually free, and flawed. just like Portland. Just like every one of us. A Human Being.
I can forgive Sam for Lying, as I've stated on this very blog I completely understand why he did. Yes, there was a right answer : "Yes or NO" but the more appropriate one would have been "It's none of your damn business." If only he had said THAT!
I was at the rally showing my support for the politician, the man I wanted to run my adopted hometown. My friend Matthew pointed out how great it would be for, Olive the daughter of his lesbian friends to grow up in a town with a openly gay mayor, but now that's not going to happen.
I'm heartbroken as I write this resigning myself, that while I still think the lie about ones personal life is none one's business, and still firmly believe this scandal was the work of jealous rivals who couldn't get backed for their own mayoral aspirations, nothing can undone the damage done. The latest revelation from Beau Breedlove that the two shared 2 kisses before he turned 18 does nothing to help the cause, especially seeing as how one was in the second floor men's room of city hall after a party at Sam's office. And while the accompanying photos of Beau playing with his dog and defending Sam are human and tasteful, the dog being named Lolita is not making this ANY BETTER.
I went to the Rally to show Sam that yeah we acknowledge he mad a huge error in judgment by lying but that apology accepted get back to work. I think a fairly sizable segment of the protesters were there as a hip gay-see-and-be-seen. Some , like the snarky boy who chatted with my husband and I before the rally was full of fiery righteous indignation but was misguided and clueless when it came to any facts of the case or even who the people involved actually were. Portlanders love to protest. I agree the newspapers who supported Bill Clinton during his scandal should have been more supportive of Sam, but that said they know Sam personally, they felt betrayed. Well as a sign I read stated "HE'S YOUR MAYOR, NOT YOUR BOYFRIEND PORTLAND! "
I wanted nothing more than Sam to get back to work, I think personally that is what he should have done on Thursday, back to business as usual. Surrounding himself with the supportive A-gays of the Portland arts scene was a misstep, not entirely of his own making. There was a lot of people there who were just trying to push their own agenda, but a lot also who had their heart in the right place. Dan Savage was there and with his usual wit and smarts made a great case for supporting Sam and was equally appalled by the media stoking the fires.
I want Sam Adams to be my mayor. He's a good man. we all know that. He took the time from his busy schedule last month as mayor-elect to call me personally when he heard news of my husband's false arrest by Portland State campus security and he made inquiries into the matter. He didn't have to do that, a few of his higher profile(in Portland at least) supporters certainly did not do that for us when they heard of Taylor's case (Byron Beck I'm looking at you!)
After hearing the news Sam plans to return to work tomorrow followed by the Oregonian's interview with Beau, I just don't see how it is possible for Sam to stay in office and accomplish all the things we so desperately need him to here in Portland. I want him to, I want to believe he won't have to be beholden to so many to stay, but I can't see how he won't be recalled anyway in six months. His enemies will still be there, and this campaign to remove him, and his own admission of lies has cost him a few friends as well. It's heartbreaking. I resign myself to the fact that this is out of our hands. Hell I have my own sex scandal to deal with here with Taylor. I wish Sam the best , I do. I wish Portland the best.
We need to heal here, we are all hurting and turning on each other is not helping, if anything it makes the gay community more vulnerable to persecution. REAL persecution.

Ok before my tirade let me just say I have quite a few awesome loving amazing Catholic friends (some practicing , some not) .
Isn't that always a lovely way to start- like saying - I don't want to make you mad/hurt your feelings, BUT...
Pope ... still-a-dick... err I mean Benedict XVI (see my playful banter pun of wordage there?) has made some really awesome steps to move into this new modern era. I understand that it's hard to live down the youthful indiscretions that haunt us doggedly as adults. Little things that shape your character and live in the corners of regret; in the recess of your mind. Things like lying, youthful shoplifting, or say, in the case of Pope Benedict (formerly know as Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger) being a member of the HITLER YOUTH. This is a widely know fact and one that has been dismissed as "oh, you know in those days they practically made everyone join."
Well here's a charming little quote from the Bishop that had once been excommunicated but has now been REINSTATED by the Pope himself along with 3 others. :
"There was not one Jew killed by the gas chambers. It was all lies, lies, lies."
Here is is explaining those words on Swiss t.v. LAST WEEK . I'm somewhat speechless. how is it that there are STILL asstwats out there like this denying the Holocaust. I went to high school in the deep, deep deep south. SouthWest Georgia, which is entirely agricultural, literally no industry. There were a number of people like this where I grew up, I was gay , Jewish and punk rock and was confronted on all sides by bigots. I remember vividly the moment I made up my mind to drop out of high school (I had already been accepted to college). I was in an AP economics class, which really was never about economic more about world events due to the teacher, when another student said "Well I don't believe in the Holocaust, you know how them Jews are, they're all good with numbers and shit."
I got up and said "I think I'm to go."
My teacher asked "are you coming back ?" jokingly
"I don't think so, no." I said calmly.
And I never did. It was just the final straw of a long road that included a sexual assault, a violent gay bashing and numerous other abuses at the hands of students, their parents and even the faculty and staff. This was small town America in the mid nineties. This is how they viewed the "other".
Denver really believed the words when he said "Well I don't believe in the Holocaust, you know how them Jews are, they're all good with numbers and shit." Those were the facts as he was taught. Jews ate gold, murdered babies , killed christ, and were good with numbers.

Words have erased cultures, caused genocide, incited world wars, words have seduced and betrayed, the written word I'd argue is the most dangerous weapon ever created. As a constant pursuer of Urban Fantasy books the thing I am still hunting for is a great urban fantasy story with a gay male lead. Any out there? So far I am not finding them in my Google and bookstore hunts. Many of the books I read do indeed have gay characters, but unfortunately they are still secondary characters. I am not the most savvy on the publishing world's requirements to sell books, but I am guessing it is probably much like Hollywoods' need to give Middle America their taste of testosterone laden machoism, but I would hope to find at least a small amount of books with gay leads. The gay and lesbian section in most stores are full of "My first time", or "The pizza boy delivers, and erotic novel". Don't get me wrong, I like my smut as much as the next person but are there any writers penning something different? I am in love with Charlaine Harris, Yasmine Galenorn, Karen Chance with her Cassandra Palmer novels, but I still can't find these types of books that star some gay boy much like myself in situations I would rather find myself. So today I am starting the book that Andy so lovingly picked up for me. Perry Moore's 'Hero'. It promises to offer some of what I am looking for. It makes me think 'Sky High' meets 'Justice League' and then goes gay. Hopefully this book will be a delight that I hear Stan Lee is excited to work on for a T.V. show. Now I am hoping if this does happen that they will keep him gay.

Ted Haggard, the methed out-homophobic former pastor who was brought down by Mike Jones, the male escort he was sleeping with, has in fact done it again! After "Praying The Gay Away" in three weeks no less, and blaming his homosexual urges on childhood abuse now comes word he "forced himself" on a 20 year old male volunteer . Let's be clear here, he raped someone. If that was not heinous enough New Life church has payed the victim money in an attempt to cover their sorry, lying, destructive asses.

Brady Boyd New Life Church's new pastor and friend of Haggard (originally replacing Ted Haggard) had this to say after a volunteer who wished to remain anonymous broke the scandal after learning of the cover up:
Boyd said the church reached a legal settlement to pay the man for counseling and college tuition, with one condition being that none of the parties involved discuss the matter publicly. Boyd said a Colorado Springs TV station reached him Thursday to say the young man was planning to provide a detailed report of his relationship with Haggard to the station. Boyd said the church preferred to keep the matter private, but it was the man's decision to go public. Anticipating criticism of the settlement with the former church volunteer, Boyd said Friday that it was in the best interests of all involved. He would not name the volunteer or the settlement amount. 'It wasn't at all a settlement to make him be quiet or not tell his story,' Boyd said. 'Our desire was to help him. Here was a young man who wanted to get on with his life. We considered it more compassionate assistance — certainly not hush money. I know what's what everyone will want to say because that's the most salacious thing to say, but that's not at all what it was.' He said that 'secondarily, it's not great for our church either' that the story be told. Boyd said Haggard knew about the settlement two years ago.

Louise Williams, a 39 year old tourist was thrown from her sailboat while vacationing in the Caribbean yesterday . It seems a 6 foot wave tossed the woman in to the rocks scrapping her up and making her fear for her life when who runs o her rescue? Non other than MS. Rehab Chanteuse (and Rehab dropout) Amy Winehouse.

The Brit landed painfully on rocks near where former heroin addict Amy was relaxing with a pal on her St Lucia break.The singer dashed to Louise — who was lying in agony at the water’s edge and in danger of being swept back into the sea.

Later Amy posed for a snap with Louise, looking proud.
It was a change from an often debauched stay at posh Le Sport hotel, where Amy has been seen crawling on a bar floor, nicking drinks and asking guests for sex.

London Based photographer/model Peter Breen has been doing a provocative series of self portraits for years now, usually clad only in sneakers and socks, or bits of costuming Breen's objectification of his own body is both intimate and otherworldly. It's an interesting statement on male beauty viewed through a queer lens when so much attention is placed on objectification of the aesthetic that Breen chose self portraits that at times are erotic but often candid or just as often frightening uneasy. His work seems voyeuristically private and bravely so a revelation of the inner world of the modern male psyche and its place at odds with the changing nature of the his place in said world. Soulful, brooding, surly, sexy, smoldering, unpredictable and versatile actor Peter Dinklage is my second pick for the Beauty in the Eyes (of the Beholder) Series. The prolific actor has been seen in a wide variety of projects and the 2003 film The Station Agent is perhaps one of the best American films of the this decade.
Dinklage was born with achondroplasia and is a mere 4' 5" tall but he towers over most actors of average height. Whenever he shows up I can't take my eyes off of him. Brilliant!

I've thought about it and thought about it. Sam Adams confessed to having an
"affair" with an 18 year old former intern, Beau Breedlove. So what. Breedlove was 18, yes they met when he was 17 but seriously folks we ship off our boys to be mangled and mutilated with shrapnel in Iraq but an 18 year old young MAN is not capable of consensual sex? Give me a fucking break. While I am saddened that Sam chose to lie about the relationship I completely understand why he did. Take a look at all your childhood favorite monsters and Max, the boy in monster pajamas. The film has been fraught with problems from the start and delayed time and time again. Warner Brothers fearing the film was far too terrifying for their assumed child audience. But those of us in our late 20 to early 40s should be just fine lol. Seriously, just make the damn movie for adults who read it as a child and be done with it. It looks incredible and I have high hopes given Jonez previous films Being John Malcovich and Adaptation.

Tim Burton (um you know what he's directed!) and Timur Bekmembetov (Night Watch, Day Watch, Wanted) have teamed up to produce 9 , an animated feature film from director Shane Acker. Acker is fleshing out the film from his 2005 original short film 9 about "a parallel world where humanity is threatened" Here's a look at the trailer, making this along with the Henry Selik directed Coraline and Pixar's UP one of the most promising years in recent memory for animated feature films.

The 1972 Wes Craven film The Last House On The Left is a landmark sexploitation grindhouse film, that launched the career of it's director. It's also a troubling deeply disturbing tale of rape, torture,and ultimately revenge. The film was banned in the UK for a time and was censored dramatically by the MPAA here in the states, I have a sort of love/hate relationship with the film. I don't particularly like it, but respect it's intentions and what it has created in terms of dramatic story telling and violence, the cycles of violence associated with vigilantly justice and revenge. However I hate rape and torture films so there's that issue in abundance here. Here's the original trailer, which I must admit, looks hokey by today's standards as trailers are now an artform.
Well all things are new again as the film has been remade like so many other classic low-budget horror films of the 1970s and 1980's :The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, My Bloody Valentine (in 3D no less!), The Hills Have Eyes (also a Wes Craven film) and the upcoming Friday the 13th . However I was surprised at how compelling the new version looks. It seems that in the 37(!) years since the film was made our notion of horror has changed and where this was once a statement on the death of hippie culture it's become a film about revenge for familial love and American justice. Originally i swore after Alexandre Aja's nearly unwatchable, pornographically violent The Hills Have Eyes remake that I wouldn't be seeing The Last House On The Left as the first film was so traumatizing. I think I've changed my mind now.

Academy-award winner Tilda Swinton will appear on four tracks as "the voice of hope" on Battles, the forthcoming new album by Patrick Wolf. This, to me, is a perfect match made in heaven. Battles is due out in the spring on Bloody Chamber Music, Wolf's own imprint. The album was financed via BANDSTOCK which allows fans to buy into the record as shareholders. Those are some pretty snazzy bragging rights.

The painfully pure and fiercely bold voice of Antony Hegarty takes center stage on Antony and the Johnson's new l.p. The Crying Light, the follow up to the critically acclaimed masterpiece I am A Bird Now. The album is a redemptive song cycle exploring themes of nature, hope and healing. The center piece Another World was previously released on the Another World e.p. but here in the context of this setting it is even more powerful. Musically it is a neoclassical affair, with pared down strings and piano but the uplifting hymnal quality of each track transcends genres and style and makes for an almost religious experience. While previous albums mined the darker terrain of sexual dysfunction, gender identity, abuse and mortality, The Crying Light if nothing else seems to be about the power to be reborn and healed by the Earth itself.

The Nike Advert making the blog rounds today really is repulsively homophobic, but folks rest assure it's a fake. It's a student created work... STUDENT... so this is what the future of advertising holds?Blatant homophobia? Sad. Nike has been very fast acting denouncing the fake advert and making it clear they neither commissioned nor condoned the piece.
Side note- Ballet dancers are bad ass athletes, which i think we already know. It's curious this continued streak of American sports related de-masculization advertising. Feminizing and queering the male subject to promote a sports product as the cure-all is a tired and bigoted trope in culture that should have been done away with long ago.
Thankfully the amazing and intelligent Alice Pieszecki, portrayed by the equally amazing Leisha Hailey, has put into words a very concise summary of the way I currently am feeling about todays social view of gay and lesbian citizens. The fact that our current situation has put me in the place of finger pointing accusations that much resemble the Holocaust or the McCarthy era, I am very glad that the writers of the L Word have put a similar scenario out there to show the idiocy of the system at the moment.

It was at the sight of Cillian Murphy unconscious and fully exposed in a hospital bed. Apparently gouging out a man's eyes onscreen with your thumbs and the constant threat of death by zombie-esque plague victims and rape by villainous men folk is okay. A flaccid penis! DEAR GOD NO!
