Nine versus 9

I think its interesting and slightly odd that two films are opening with two months of each other with the same title: Nine.  One is Rob Marshall's Fellini-esque musical romp which looks incredible in every single way (so we'll forgive him for the lackluster Memoirs of a Geisha) Penelope Cruz, Daniel Day-Lewis, Nicole Kidman, Sophia Loren, and a ton of dancing girls.

The other is the feature film adaptation of Shawn Acker's visionary Oscar winning short of the same name 9.  Produced by Tim Burton (Sweeney Todd, Corpse Bride) and Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch, Day Watch, Wanted) 9 tells the story of a group of rag dolls in the desolate future who are humanity's last hope. 9 is actually one of the most eagerly anticipated films this year here at Digging To China. There is sorta no comparison to the films but there close release date and same exact title is a strange choice. I'm sure they will both be up for Oscar in February- albeit in radically different categories.
